Beadmaking is a group of very creative, innovative and imaginative 1st and 2nd graders. We have explored a number of different materials to make beads including recycled paper, dried fruit, and polymer clay.

Next up: seashells! One of the most exciting aspects of beadmaking is that students have flexibility to use their beads however they choose, from jewelry to garlands to window hangings. The students have made everything from simple beads to share and trade with each other, elaborate necklaces for their parents, and coordinating pieces with their friends. In addition to exploring elements of art (color, shape, form, texture) and principles of design (balance, unity, variety, movement, pattern, proportion) they are gaining experience in problem solving and flexible thinking. They can’t wait to display their creations at our gallery show as both exhibit items and a walking fashion show.
