Be a Part of the Conversation

2019-2020 Book Club reading choices and dates will be out soon.  We'll announce them on the website and weekly emails as soon as they're available.

The PS 11 Book Club has a new book selection! Please join us in reading We Are Not Yet Equal by Carol Anderson and help us continue our conversation about racial equity.

Please read Chapters 1-13 and join us at Foragers (300 West 22nd on 8th Avenue) on Wednesday, January 16th at 9:00 a.m.

The PS11 SLT Book Club launched in 2015 and provides families an opportunity to participate in the conversations about the themes teachers and staff are incorporating into classroom learning and school culture. This year we will be reading a Young Adult selection, The Hate U Give, that uses fiction to explore issues of racial justice.

The Hate U Give

The Hate U Give debuted at the top of the New York Times Young Adult best-seller list and has gotten rave reviews from critics, and has been turned into a film which will be out in theaters this Fall.

Please note, this book contains adult themes and may not be suitable for elementary-aged children.

You can participate in-person or online!

In personOur first in-person discussion will be Tuesday, Oct. 9th at 9 am, Forager's Market, 300 West 22nd Street @ 8th Ave. We will meet in the cafe area to discuss Chapters 1-10 of "The Hate U Give".  Our second meeting will be on Tuesday, November 13th right after drop off, also at Foragers, to discuss chapters 11-26 (or the audiobook, or the movie, or just join the conversation).

For online participation you can join the digital book club discussion board:

  1. Log into a gmail account and go to;

  2. Click on the “+” in the upper right hand corner and select “Join class”; and
